Recent Earthquake Activity in Silverdale

On 3 December 2025, a magnitude 3.3 earthquake occurred near Silverdale (Cumbria) and was felt in Silverdale, Carnforth, Morecambe, Kendal, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Kirkby Lonsdale and many other towns and villages, mainly from around 25 km from the epicentre. A second event, magnitude 2.4, was recorded on 19 December 2025, and also affected nearby communities.

Although earthquakes of this magnitude are generally not damaging in the UK, they can be widely felt and provide useful data for understanding local seismic activity. These events are a reminder of the diverse natural processes affecting the North West region.
